It had been a few weeks since the evening that changed Wills life forever; the evening he found out that Jasmine was carrying his child. Since then their “relationship” had gone from strength to strength, and they were closer than ever; and he felt himself fall more and more in love with her every day. He finally told her that he loved her several days ago, though Jasmine only responded with a kiss instead of repeating the words back to him; which hurt him immensely, even though he acted like it didn’t faze him whatsoever. He had been certain that she felt the same way, but now, it was clear to him that she just wasn’t in that place; she just liked him. That was it. And he had to accept that.
Now, he was standing outside the hospital, awaiting Jasmines arrival. Today was the day that they would see their baby for the first time; hear its heartbeat. And Will couldn’t be more excited. He glanced at his watch; Jasmines shift would have ended a few minutes ago, which meant that she would be here in any second. When he heard footsteps, he turned, hoping to see a petite brunette with the smallest of baby bumps walking towards him, but instead, he saw a tall, attractive blonde; curling a strand of hair in her fingertips, a flirty smirk on her lips. She began to talk to him, make suggestive comments. Will wasn’t sure what to do. He couldn’t exactly say that he had a girlfriend; because that wasn’t true; he and Jasmine weren’t exclusive. But he also didn’t want to offend the blonde by saying that he wasn’t interested in the slightest. So all Will did was nod along, occasionally giving one-word replies.
As he said the one word, she was afraid to hear, her breath hitched in the back of her throat. Positive. That word repeated over and over again in her mind. For a moment she wasn’t sure how to feel about it. Should she be happy or should she be upset? The petite girl looked into his eyes, trying to search for the answer to her question. She eventually found it and the corners of her lips turned up into a big smile. “I’m pregnant.” she whispered almost inaudible for him, looking down into her lap. It was crazy but it was true. Ever since she was little, she had dreamed about being pregnant. Well, she also wanted to be married but that didn’t matter now. There was a little creature growing inside of her. It was almost surreal but it was happening.
"Will, I am pregnant!" her voice was now loud and clear and there was bright smile on her face now. She looked up at him, cupping his face with her hands and pulling him into a long passionate kiss. Pulling away, she took his hands and laid it onto her stomach. “Your baby is growing inside there." she whispered, biting her lower lip. The happiness she felt inside of her all of a sudden was almost overwhelming but at the same time it was the best feeling she had felt in awhile. With Will it was nothing new though. “We can do this right? Together we can. I know we can. Not only because I think so but because I want to. I want to have this baby with you and raise it together with you. We’ll be a family."
Now that Jasmine was smiling too, Will didnt see the need to hide his true emotions about the pregnancy, and an goofy ear-to-ear grin spread across his face. “I’m going to be a dad.” he murmured onto her lips, pointing out the obvious, before returning the kiss. His grin didnt fade when they pulled away, and with his hands on her stomach he felt a lump grow in his throat. He was overcome with happiness; but that wasnt the only emotion he was feeling at that moment. He was also a little petrified, if he was being completely honest. He was going to be a father. There was a tiny, human being growing in Jasmines stomach, and that tiny human being belonged to him; belonged to them. “Its your baby too.” he told her softly, “Its ours.”
We’ll be a family.
Jasmines words hit him like a ton of bricks; but in the best possible way. He and Jasmine would be a couple; they’d move in together, raise a child; they’d be one of those couples that stayed together until the end; he just knew it. “We’ll be a family.” He repeated, pressing a quick kiss to her lips before stepping away and reaching for one of the pregnancy tests. “Hey, random question. Do you think its possible to frame one of these things, or-” He wrinkled his nose, “-will the pee just kinda stay on it forever?”
Squeezing his hand, she managed to look up at him with a slight smile on her face. She couldn’t even explain how much his words comforted her. It just made her feel so much better about this while thing. If she was completely honest, she wasn’t even scared about being pregnant itself; she was only scared that Will would leave her if she was pregnant. Actually she was sure that she would even like being pregnant if the anxiety inside of her wasn’t there. As she just thought about only the good things and having a child with him, it made her happy. “You’re right.” She whispered, taking his face in her hands and pulling him into a passionate kiss.
"If I’m pregnant, I know that we can do this together. I know we can." She nodded before taking his hands in hers again. Jasmine bit down on her lower lip, looking at her watch to check how much longer they still had to wait. There were about two minutes left until they knew for sure whether she was pregnant or not. She looked deep into his eyes, running one of her hands through his soft hair. “Is it bad that part of me really likes the thought of carrying your child inside of me?" She asked, her voice soft and a small smile playing on her lips. Quickly she pecked his lips before she checked her watch again. It was time and suddenly she felt crazily nervous again. “I… I can’t… Can you please?"
"It’s not bad," he reassured her with a smile; pleased that Jasmine seemed to be less nervous, and, of course, pleased that she liked the idea of having his baby. He honestly couldn’t think of someone better to raise a family with than Jasmine. "Its better than you thinking 'Ewww, I might be carrying his child inside of me' that’s for sure.”
Will glanced at her watch with her, his breath catching in his throat as he realized that it was about time to look; in mere seconds, they could find out something that would change their lives forever. Understandably, Jasmine returned to the nervous state she was in before he had tried to reassure her about him being there throughout the pregnancy; if she was pregnant, that is. He nodded in response, and, without a word, he stood, and made his way to the nightstand where the pregnancy tests were situated.
He let out a rather shaky breath, before peering at the tests; not sure at that moment whether he wanted to see a positive, or a negative sign.
But when he saw the result; he knew that it was quite possibly the best news he had received in a long time. On all three of those white sticks, there were two lines. It was clear as day; Jasmine was pregnant.
He picked up one of the tests, and turned around to face the petite brunette. Holding the test up so that the girl could see, he murmured one small word, a small smile on his lips; not wanting to seem too overjoyed, just in case Jasmine didn’t feel the same way about the situation. “Positive.”
As Will told her that he wasn’t sure what he’d do without her either, she got reminded all over again how lucky she was to have him and it brought a smile to herself. It just made her realize how stupid it was of her to ignore him and not go to him with this right away. Once she was in his bedroom, she sat down on his bed, trying to relax. That went well for about a minute, until she got up again, starting to get nervous.
For a split second she thought about what if Will would just run away now and never return? Quickly she mentally hit herself for that thought though, knowing that he would never do something like that to her. Jasmine felt herself getting a little sick again. She wasn’t sure if it was because of what could be inside of her or just because she was so nervous. Either way, she tried to black it out completely. When she saw Will again, that successfully happened. “That really was quick.” she smiled weakly at him. Her hands started to shake as she looked at the bag in his hands.
"Guess I’m gonna take those now." biting her lower lip, she took the bag from him. “Thank you." the brunette whispered, quickly kissing his lips, before she vanished into the bathroom to take the tests. She stood there for a minute, too nervous to even move. She was so scared of the results, that she wasn’t even sure what she wanted anymore because part of her did want to be pregnant and she wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. Then, she finally moved and brought herself to take all three tests. As she was done, she walked back to Will, putting the tests onto one of his nightstands. “We have to wait a few minutes now." she mumbled, sitting down on the edge of the bed. Without even noticing it, a few tears rolled down her cheeks again. This whole situation was too much for her. She didn’t know how to deal with it. “I’m scared." Jas whispered, nervously twisting her hands in her lap.
Will paced his bedroom as Jasmine took the tests; tons of thoughts rushing around in his head at once, so many that he couldn’t decipher most of them. In a matter of minutes, his life could completely change; he could become an expecting father. Or, it could be a false alarm, and his life wouldn’t change in the slightest. At that point, he didn’t even know which outcome he’d prefer. Having a baby would certainly turn his life upside down, but he had always wanted to have a child. And he could imagine having a future with Jasmine, which was something he’d never been able to do with any other women. Perhaps she was the one for him; who knows?
He was very suddenly jolted out of his thoughts when the bathroom door opened and a scared-looking Jasmine sauntered out. After she had sat down on the bed, he kneeled on the floor in front of her, and placed a hand over hers in an attempt to stop her from fidgeting nervously. He looked her in the eye, his heart wrenching when tears rolled down her cheeks. “Don’t cry.” He told her softly, moving his free hand up to her face to wipe away her tears. “And honestly? I’m fucking petrified too.” He let out a small laugh, then his facial expression returned to how it was before; concerned, truthful, loving. ”-But if the tests show that you are pregnant, then we’ll get through this together. I’ll do everything I can to help you, and I’ll stay by your side throughout the whole thing. I promise.”
A small smile appeared on her face, softening her features a little. The thought of being stuck with him, was something she liked and after what he just told him, nothing she expected. Jasmine should’ve known better though because Will just wasn’t like any other guy. He was special and just different. Just so much better than any other guy. That’s when she realized all over again how lucky she was to have him.
The tears finally stopped rolling down her cheeks as he pressed a kiss to her lips. It made her feel like she didn’t have to worry about anything, like everything was going to be alright. “Thank you. I am just so glad to have you.” she told him, quickly giving him another kiss. She knew that he was just as nervous and unsure about this situation as she was but he still managed to keep her calm.
Nodding to his suggestion, the corners of her lip moved a little upwards. “I think that sounds like a good idea. Promise you’ll come back as soon as possible though, yeah?” She kissed his cheek, before slowly making her way upstairs. Halfway up the stairs she turned around to look at him again. “Hey Will? Again, I’m sorry and thank you. I’m not sure what I’d do without you.” the brunette said, before continuing walking upstairs.
"Promise." Will traced a cross over his heart with his fingertip "I wont be long." He then waited for Jasmine to walk up the stairs; wanting to make sure that she reached the top safely before leaving the apartment. He knew that he needn’t be concerned at this stage in the pregnancy (if she was pregnant, that is) but he couldn’t help it. "Stop apologizing." He replied softly, a small smile on his lips. "And for the record, I’m not sure what Id do without you either." With that being said, Will turned and headed out of the apartment; shutting the door behind him before making his way towards the elevator.
He couldn’t help but be glad about the fact that the pharmacy was a good five minute walk away from the apartment building; it gave him enough time to clear his head. Or at least, try to. He was scared, that was for sure. Scared about how he and Jasmine had only just started dating, and that now, two months in, they could be expecting a child together. It made everything more complicated; if they broke up, they couldnt just..go their separate ways. There would be something that kept them tied together for the rest of their lives, whether they liked it or not.
But hopefully, everything would go according to plan. They’d fall in love, and it would be one of those once in a lifetime loves that everyone dreamed about; they’d have a happy family, a family unlike either of their own. It could be perfect.
He soon returned to the apartment, a brown paper bag in hand with three pregnancy tests inside. After climbing up the ladder-like stairs to his bedroom, he raised the bag in the air, to show Jasmine. “I didnt know what the..normal amount to buy is, but I got three. Is that okay?”
The thought that Will would leave her now, just wouldn’t leave her mind. It was something she was scared about like she’s never been scared about something before. He was the person that made her happy and she really hadn’t been happy ever before. He was also the person she could imagine to have a family with. She didn’t think of this early though, and not like this. What would happen if he’d leave her. She’d be all alone and her parents would most likely kill her.
The news seemed to shock him and she couldn’t blame him. Who wouldn’t be shocked. Well, some couples were happy but were they even a couple? They’ve never made things official. Things were so complicated. Why was this happening now? She knew she really liked this guy, more than anything and she wanted to go through this with him. The question was, was he willing to do the same? That was what she wasn’t sure about.
Before talking again, she tried to calm down again but it was hard. “No. I was so scared.” she told him, not able to look into his eyes. She was just afraid to see the reaction in his eyes. “That’s why I ignored you. I wasn’t sure how to handle this whole thing. It was too overwhelming, just the possibility of being pregnant.” The words just spilled out of her, not really having a control over what she was saying. “Will, I was scared that you would leave me if I told you. I don’t want you to leave me. I am so sorry.” she finally confessed.
He couldn’t help but feel a little relieved when Jasmine informed him that she hadn’t taken a test; there was still a chance that this was just a false alarm. Though, if it turned out that she was in fact pregnant, he knew that he’d be there for her throughout the whole thing.
He understood why she would be so scared; they’d only been dating for two months, so naturally, she would suspect that he would bail on her. There weren’t many guys out there who would stick around after finding out something like that so early on in the relationship, but fortunately for Jasmine, Will was one of the few who would.
"I’m afraid you’re stuck with me." He told her, his tone soft. He moved a finger to her chin and tilted her head up, forcing her to look at him. "And I forgive you, by the way." He pressed a kiss to her lips, trying not to let his fear about the whole situation show. "Why don’t you go upstairs and get comfortable, and I’ll go to the nearest pharmacy and buy a couple of tests. That way, we’ll know whether or not you’re pregnant and we can figure something out."
